Paniolo Ranch Wedding and Reception – Elizabeth + Joseph
The calm beauty of a Hill Country wedding
Elizabeth and Joseph’s wedding at Paniolo Ranch was spread over two beautiful days in the Texas Hill Country. It was full of laughter, quiet moments, and the kind of joy that only happens when people slow down and soak it in.
Paniolo Ranch sits just outside of Boerne, overlooking wide open hills and oak trees. It’s peaceful and private—perfect for couples who want a stress-free day surrounded by family, friends, and nature. As San Antonio wedding photographers, we’ve seen a lot of venues, but few offer the mix of views and calm that Paniolo does.
Day One: The intimate ceremony
Elizabeth and Joseph chose to keep their first day small—just family, a few close friends, and their two dogs. The dogs walked down the aisle wearing little satin bow collars that matched the wedding colors (all custom made by the bride). They stole the show for a few moments, as dogs often do, but everyone loved it.
The ceremony took place overlooking the hills as the late afternoon light softened. The breeze carried faint laughter, and you could feel the calm between them as they said their vows.
Afterward, the family gathered for dinner on the patio. The food was simple and good, and the atmosphere felt like a backyard gathering with style. You could tell everyone there mattered deeply to the couple.
The sunset portraits
Once dinner was done, we took Elizabeth and Joseph for portraits around the property. Paniolo Ranch glows in the evening—soft light hits the ridge line, the grass turns gold, and everything slows down.
They laughed, walked through the field, and paused now and then to take it in. At one point, Joseph picked up Elizabeth so they could cross the cattle gaurd into and out of the field, and honestly, those shots were some of our favorites.
We didn’t pose them much. That’s not how we work. We gave small prompts, then let them be themselves. The result was real emotion, not staged smiles.
Why couples love a two-day wedding
Not every couple can stretch their celebration across two days, but it’s worth thinking about. Day one can be about family, quiet time, and moments that aren’t rushed. Day two can be the big celebration.
You could feel the relaxed atmosphere of day two, Elizabeth said Jospeh seems at ease knowing the hardest part—the ceremony—was already done. The second day was pure fun. They could dance, laugh, and not worry about time.
From our view as photographers, splitting the event makes for better photos. There’s less stress. You get more light for portraits and more time to enjoy your guests.
Day Two: The celebration
The second day brought more guests, more laughter, and more energy. The reception area at Paniolo Ranch looked beautiful—string lights, natural wood tables, and a view that stretched to the horizon.
The details that made it theirs
They kept things relaxed but personal. The tables had simple greenery, candles, and place settings. Paniolo is elegant enough that decor can be minimal, but the beauty was that Elizabeth had created all the signs and detail items using her craftiness and art skills. You could see how much heart went into planning without it feeling overdone.
Their cake sat on top of the piano—clean white frosting, a few wildflowers, and toppers made by Elizabeth of their two dogs, that looked just like them.
Guests mingled as the sun dropped behind the ridge. The music picked up, and before long, everyone was on the dance floor.
Toasts and first dances
The toasts followed. Friends and family shared stories—some funny, some emotional, all genuine. We caught tears, laughter, and a few surprised reactions. That’s what we love most: capturing moments no one can plan.
Elizabeth and Joseph’s first dance happened under string lights as the sky faded to blue. It was one of those moments where you could tell they forgot everyone else was there.
Bouquet and the t-shirt toss
In addition to a bouquet toss, they added a t-shirt toss for fun. Guests lined up, cheering as Elizabeth and Joseph threw custom shirts across the dance floor. It made everyone laugh and kept the night lighthearted.
Dancing under the stars
The DJ knew how to keep a crowd going. Friends from out of state and local family danced like they hadn’t seen each other in years. The night was full of easy laughter, group hugs, and spontaneous twirls.
From behind the camera, we saw so many small moments—a friend wiping away happy tears, Joseph and Elizabeth dancing with nephews and nieces, Elizabeth hugging her mom after a dance. Those are the moments that tell a story better than anything else.
The light wand exit
As the night came to an end, guests lined the walkway with light wands instead of sparklers. The glow reflected off everyone’s smiles as the couple ran through. It was colorful, fun, and safer than open flame—something we always appreciate as photographers.
They paused at the end, kissed, and waved goodbye. The crowd cheered as the Hill Country night came to a close.

A few tips for couples planning a Paniolo Ranch wedding
1. Time your ceremony for light.
Late afternoon or early evening works best. The sun dips behind the ridge and gives your photos a warm, even glow.
2. Keep your schedule simple.
Paniolo’s charm is its relaxed setting. Don’t overpack your timeline. Leave room to breathe and enjoy it.
3. Bring your pets if it fits your day.
This venue is pet-friendly, and it adds so much personality. Just have someone ready to help with water, treats, and quick breaks.
4. Stay on site.
The cabins at Paniolo make things easy. You can wake up to the view and walk straight into your wedding day.
5. Plan a few quiet moments.
Step away together for five minutes during sunset. You’ll remember that feeling more than any detail.
Our takeaways from Elizabeth + Joseph’s weekend
What stood out most was how genuine everything felt. Nothing was rushed. Nothing was forced. The two-day format let their story unfold at its own pace.
On the first day, they shared vows with only the closest people in their lives. On the second, they opened their hearts to everyone else who mattered. Both days reflected who they are—kind, grounded, and joyful.
From a photographer’s side, it was a dream. The natural light, open spaces, and relaxed timeline gave us everything we needed to tell their story fully.
A closing thought for couples
If you’re looking for a place where you can slow down and enjoy your wedding, Paniolo Ranch is worth visiting. It’s beautiful, yes—but more than that, it gives you space to be present.
