WalstonPhoto is a husband-and-wife wedding photography team based just outside San Antonio, Texas. We photograph weddings throughout San Antonio and the Texas Hill Country, as well as destination weddings across the country, using a documentary approach that favors real moments over posed ones.

Some couples know exactly what documentary photography means. Others come across the term while researching and want to understand what it actually looks like on the day. Here is our approach in plain terms.

We spend your wedding day observing rather than directing. That means minimal posing, no forced moments, and a focus on the interactions that happen naturally between you, your partner, and the people you love. We are drawn to the in-between moments as much as the traditional ones: a hand on a shoulder before the ceremony, the walk between venue spaces, the way a room reacts during a toast. The result is a set of images that reads less like a highlight reel and more like the day actually felt.

San Antonio and Hill Country Venues We've Photographed

La Cantera Resort — Sitting above the Hill Country, La Cantera offers dramatic elevation and golden hour light that changes depending on where the ceremony is set. We've photographed both full evening receptions and smaller outdoor-dinner celebrations here, and each one has looked different depending on the specific space used.

McNay Art Museum — Set on the museum's Spanish Colonial Revival grounds in San Antonio, the McNay offers two distinct ceremony spaces: the Gazebo & Fish Pond area, shaded and landscaped in a style inspired by Japanese gardens, and the Main Fountain courtyard. Indoor portraits inside the galleries add an unusual backdrop most venues can't offer

Lost Mission — Tucked off Highway 46 between Boerne and Spring Branch, Lost Mission centers on a Spanish-style chapel with thick white walls and minimal decor, the kind of space that photographs cleanly without needing much dressing up. The grounds sit under mature oak trees, which give the outdoor portions soft, filtered light through most of the afternoon.

The Veranda — A 1931 estate in Castle Hills, the Veranda gives couples three distinct reception settings under one roof: an open-air courtyard strung with café lights, an indoor ballroom with exposed wood beams, and a covered pavilion that splits the difference. That range means the light and mood of a Veranda wedding depends heavily on which space a couple chooses.

Paniolo Ranch — A Hill Country ranch venue outside Boerne, Paniolo Ranch offers the kind of open, unmanicured land that suits a documentary approach well — wide fields, natural light, and few hard boundaries between ceremony, reception, and the golden hour portraits in between.

Camp Lucy A vineyard-style property in Dripping Springs, Camp Lucy's rolling grounds and mix of modern and rustic architecture give a wedding day several distinct visual settings without leaving the property, which is part of why it's become one of our most-requested Hill Country venues.

Allen Farmhaus — Just outside New Braunfels, Allen Farmhaus pairs an open-air chapel with a reception barn, and its open fields catch a golden-hour glow that's become one of the most requested shots couples ask for after seeing our portfolio from here.

Gruene Estate — Minutes from the Gruene Historic District in New Braunfels, Gruene Estate's ceremony chapel has no walls, just wooden beams and open sky, which means ceremony portraits come out consistently bright and naturally lit. The reception space switches character after dark, when string lights take over the mood for dancing.

San Fernando Cathedral — Founded in 1838 in downtown San Antonio, San Fernando Cathedral is a working Catholic cathedral, which means ceremonies here carry a formality and stillness that's different from an outdoor venue — cool stone, high ceilings, and stained glass light that shifts through the day.

Dos Palomas Ranch — A ranch property in Boerne, Dos Palomas gives couples the kind of wide-open, unstructured land that works well for a day built around real moments rather than a tightly staged timeline.

Park 31 — Located in Spring Branch, Park 31 has become a favorite for couples planning both their engagement and wedding day in the same place, since the property offers enough variety in its outdoor spaces to feel different across two separate sessions.

Inspiring Oaks Ranch — In Wimberley, Inspiring Oaks Ranch is shaded by more than 100 live oak trees, with a ceremony site under the canopy and a reception barn finished with chandeliers and statement woodwork. The hilltop catches dramatic sunset color most evenings, which is where we take couples for golden-hour portraits before the reception starts.

How Far In Advance Should We Book?

Most couples book their photographer 9 to 14 months before their wedding date, and popular Saturdays in spring and fall fill first. If your date is sooner than that, reach out anyway. We sometimes have availability closer to the date than couples expect, particularly for weekday or off-season weddings.

Do you photograph weddings outside San Antonio?
Yes. While we're based just outside San Antonio, we regularly photograph weddings throughout the Texas Hill Country and take on destination weddings across the country.

Do you offer engagement sessions with wedding packages?
Yes, some packages include an engagement session, and one can always be added. Visit our engagement page for details.

What if it rains on our wedding day?
We build a backup plan into every timeline we help create, and we've photographed plenty of weddings where the weather didn't cooperate. A change in plans doesn't mean a change in how the day is documented.

How soon after the wedding do we get our photos?
You'll get a sneak peek from the reception before you even leave for your honeymoon, then a full online gallery within a week. USB and prints follow within 14 days.

How many photographers will be at our wedding?
Both of us, Royce and Michelle, are there for every wedding we shoot. You're never getting a single photographer trying to cover the whole day alone.
