Leci and Thomas’s Elopement Photos at the McNay Art Museum

Some wedding days are loud and full, surrounded by a packed timeline and a long list of moving parts. Others unfold more quietly, with intention guiding each decision. Leci and Thomas chose the latter. Their vows had already been exchanged at the courthouse, simple and meaningful in a way that felt true to them. What they wanted afterward was just as intentional. They wanted a place where they could slow the day down, take it in together, and have their story documented in a way that felt natural.

As San Antonio wedding photographers, we often see couples reimagine what a wedding day can look like, and this was one of those stories that stayed with us.

That is how we found ourselves at the McNay Art Museum with them, wandering through its grounds and interiors, letting the afternoon unfold without pressure. There was no rush to get to the next thing, no audience waiting. Just the two of them, newly married, stepping into this next chapter with a quiet kind of confidence.

We have always believed that the moments after a ceremony can carry just as much weight as the ceremony itself. Sometimes even more. The expectation is gone, the nerves settle, and what remains is something honest.

Choosing the McNay for What Comes After

The McNay has a presence that is difficult to fully explain until you are there. It does not overwhelm you. It draws you in slowly. The architecture, the textures, the way light moves through the space all work together in a way that feels thoughtful and grounded.

For Leci and Thomas, it made perfect sense. They were not looking for something overly styled or complicated. They wanted something that felt timeless, something that would still feel like them years from now. The McNay gave them that balance of elegance and ease without asking them to become anything other than who they already were.

As San Antonio wedding photographers, we are always paying attention to how a location shapes a story, and this one has a way of elevating moments without taking them over.

Inside the Semmes Lobby, Where Everything Softens

When we stepped inside the Semmes Lobby, the atmosphere shifted in a way that felt immediate. The light became softer, more controlled. The sounds of the outside world faded, replaced by a calm stillness that invited a slower pace.

This is one of those spaces that does not need much direction. The architecture speaks for itself, and all you have to do is pay attention to how people move within it.

Leci and Thomas naturally leaned into each other here, their energy becoming a little quieter, a little more reflective. It felt like a moment of pause, not in a way that interrupted the flow of the day, but in a way that deepened it.

The Blackburn Patio Courtyard and a Shift in Energy

From the lobby, we moved into the Blackburn Patio Courtyard, and with it came a subtle change in tone. The openness of the courtyard brought in a lighter, more playful energy.

It happens often when couples transition between spaces. The environment shifts, and they respond without even realizing it. Leci and Thomas began to relax even further, laughter coming a little quicker, movement becoming more fluid.

We guided them gently, suggesting movement rather than stillness, allowing their connection to lead the way. The structure of the courtyard framed them beautifully, but it never felt rigid. It felt like an extension of the day rather than a set piece.

Moving Outside, Letting the Story Continue

As we made our way onto the grounds, the light had shifted again, giving us something new to work with. This is one of the things we love most about photographing at the McNay. It is never static. It changes throughout the day, offering different textures and tones as you move through it.

By this point, Leci and Thomas were fully settled into the experience. The camera was no longer something to think about. It had simply become part of the day.

A Reflection on What Matters Most

By the time we wrapped up, there was no sense of something ending. It felt more like a continuation of the day they had already begun at the courthouse.

As San Antonio wedding photographers, these are the kinds of stories we connect with most. Days that are less about production and more about presence.

For Leci and Thomas, the McNay became part of that story. Not as the place where they said their vows, but as the place where they paused long enough to take it all in.
