Proposal at Wildseed Farms in Fredericksburg: A Hill Country Day Trip

Some proposals start with a location. This one started with a pumpkin patch.

Justin reached out to us about planning a proposal for Cusandra in Fredericksburg, and we were glad to be part of it. A pumpkin patch was his first idea. After he scouted the area himself, he leaned toward Wildseed Farms instead and sent us photos of the exact spot where he wanted to ask. He knew what he was looking for, and he found it.

The spot was a bench in the trail area of the garden, right beside the flower field. Wildseed has more flower varieties than we could name, and in late October the field was full of them. The day was partly cloudy with plenty of sun, which gave us soft, open light to work with.

The plan was a day trip from San Antonio, with the proposal around lunch time. We left early so we would have time to eat, walk the spot, and be ready well before the moment. That margin matters on proposal days. It means the only thing left to think about is the couple.

Wildseed also has a vineyard, and Justin picked up wine there to have with them. When the moment came, they had it in hand.

Cusandra had no idea. When Justin asked, she went through surprise, laughter, and tears in quick succession, and we were there for all of it. A reaction like that happens once, and it is the reason we stay quiet and close.

Afterward we spent time with them among the flowers. We made couples photos, detail shots of the ring, and a few frames of the two of them with their wine, still taking in what had just happened. Then we said goodbye to the newly engaged couple. They had their evening ahead of them, and we had dinner and a long drive home through the Hill Country.

What stays with us about this one is how much fit into a single day. They drove up to Fredericksburg as a couple and drove back to San Antonio engaged.

If you are planning a surprise proposal in Fredericksburg or anywhere in the Texas Hill Country, we would be glad to help you think through the location and timing. You can see how we work on our San Antonio proposal photography page.
