Not every night out with a camera is a job. Some are simply a good reason to get out to the Hill Country, and this one had a real occasion behind it. Scott and Cindy were celebrating 32 years of marriage, and they chose to mark it the way a lot of Texas couples do: live music, a dance floor, and a night in Bandera.

Bandera has long leaned into its reputation as a place for dance halls and live country music, and 11th Street Cowboy Bar is one of the anchors of that scene. It is the kind of venue that feels lived in. Worn wood, a stage that sits close to the crowd, and a room where people come to listen, talk, and dance in roughly equal measure.

The Night

Thirty-two years is a long time to keep choosing each other, and it showed in the small things, a shared laugh at the table, a hand on a shoulder, a dance that did not need much thought.
