Frances and Jhean's Downtown San Antonio Engagement Session
Some engagement sessions are built around a single location. Frances and Jhean's moved through three, and each one gave the afternoon something different.
An Afternoon at Hotel Valencia
We started at Hotel Valencia, downtown San Antonio's boutique hotel right on the Riverwalk. The space has a kind of built-in polish to it, clean architecture, warm interior light, a bar that feels more like a lounge than a hotel bar. We spent the first part of the afternoon working through the hotel itself, catching Frances and Jhean in its hallways and courtyards before settling in for a round of drinks at the bar. It gave the session an easy, stylish opening, the kind of setting that photographs well without needing much direction.
Down the Riverwalk
From Hotel Valencia, we made our way down to the Riverwalk itself, letting the afternoon shift from the polish of the hotel to the more relaxed energy of the river level. Stone walkways, the water, the arched bridges, all of it gave the session a second distinct look, and walking the Riverwalk together gave Frances and Jhean room to just be a couple out enjoying an afternoon in the city rather than posing for a camera.
Arriving at San Fernando Cathedral
The walk eventually brought us to San Fernando Cathedral, where Frances and Jhean are set to marry. There is something fitting about ending an engagement session at the place where the wedding itself will happen, and having them see it together in this context, ahead of the ceremony, gave the afternoon a natural close. The cathedral's facade and the surrounding plaza gave us a final, more formal set of portraits to round out the day.
If you are curious about San Fernando Cathedral as a ceremony location, we have a full guide to getting married at San Fernando Cathedral with more on the venue itself.
A Session Built Around Downtown San Antonio
What made this session work was the range packed into one afternoon. Hotel Valencia brought a stylish, upscale backdrop, the Riverwalk brought movement and a more relaxed feel, and San Fernando Cathedral closed things out with the weight of what is coming next. Downtown San Antonio has a way of offering that kind of variety within walking distance, which makes it one of our favorite settings for an engagement session that wants to show more than one side of a couple.
If a downtown session like Frances and Jhean's sounds like what you are after, we would be glad to talk through what that could look like for your own engagement. You can reach us through our contact page.
