Trinity University: A San Antonio Location Guide for Engagement Photos and Surprise Proposals

Trinity University sits on a hill above downtown San Antonio, and the campus has a scale to it that a lot of city locations do not. Wide lawns, red brick buildings with clean modernist lines, courtyards that open and close as you move through them. It is a place built for walking and lingering, which happens to be exactly what an engagement session or a proposal needs.

How Wilson Proposed to Jillian at the University of the Incarnate Word

Wilson and Jillian live in Fort Worth, which meant most of this proposal came together long distance. But the location was never really in question. Jillian's mother and father both went to the University of the Incarnate Word, and that connection was the whole reason Wilson wanted to propose there instead of somewhere closer to home.

Working Alongside Chris Ramey of Made In Texas Productions | WalstonPhoto

Last week we photographed an engagement session for Frances and Jhean, whose wedding is coming up later this year. Their session took place at two of the spots where their wedding will unfold: Hotel Valencia, where they'll get ready, and San Fernando Cathedral, where they'll say their vows. Since the day was about capturing great content for their wedding website and invitations, we joined up with Chris Ramey of Made In Texas Productions, their videographer, to walk the spaces and set the stage ahead of the big day.

Still, the right setting gives a session atmosphere. It sets the pace, the light, the mood.

How Meena Planned a Surprise Proposal Along the San Antonio Riverwalk

Meena had a short list of requirements, and none of them were negotiable. The spot had to be quiet. It had to feel somewhat private, not tucked away where getting Josette there would look suspicious, but private enough that the moment itself would not feel like it was happening in the middle of a crowd. It needed easy access, no long walks, no complicated logistics to explain away. And it needed to carry some of the charm that makes the Riverwalk what it is.

Zach and Jessica’s Proposal at the San Antonio Japanese Tea Garden

There's maybe a two hour window in the morning where the Japanese Tea Garden is more quiet and empty. After that, it belongs to everyone, and that's fine. it's a beautiful public space and those early hours before the tour groups and large families arrive are different entirely. The air still cooler and the waterfall sounds louder somehow, but actually everything else is just quieter. Stone trees and flowers catch the light in a way that feels almost accidental..

That's the version Zach wanted for Jessica.
