We've spent a lot of time at the San Antonio Botanical Garden over the years, mostly for weddings, but the same qualities that make it work for a ceremony make it one of our favorite spots for engagement and bridal sessions too. It's rare to find one location with this much range in a single afternoon: palm and cycad groves, open lawns, formal gardens, and quiet wooded paths, all within a short walk of each other.
Read MoreEvery engagement session starts with the same question: where should we shoot? Over the years we've photographed couples across San Antonio and the Hill Country, and we've come to believe the location matters less than the two people standing in it. Still, the right setting gives a session atmosphere. It sets the pace, the light, the mood.
Read MoreSome venues ask a photographer to bring energy to the day. JW Marriott Hill Country asks the opposite. It's a resort built for people who want to slow down, and that shapes how a wedding day unfolds here more than almost anything else about the property. We've now photographed two weddings on this property, each different in size and rhythm, and both shaped by that same unhurried quality.
Read MoreWe spent a Saturday evening in July at Contra/Common in Bee Cave, documenting the opening reception for "Shifting Terrain," a two-person exhibition from San Antonio painter Kristina Salinas and her mentor, Thomas Crowther. Kristina and her husband, Simon, asked us to cover the night, and we said yes without hesitation.

If Crystal Bridges is where the ceremony happens, 21c is where the day actually begins, and it turns out to be one of our favorite settings in Northwest Arkansas for exactly that reason.
Read MoreMeena had a short list of requirements, and none of them were negotiable. The spot had to be quiet. It had to feel somewhat private, not tucked away where getting Josette there would look suspicious, but private enough that the moment itself would not feel like it was happening in the middle of a crowd. It needed easy access, no long walks, no complicated logistics to explain away. And it needed to carry some of the charm that makes the Riverwalk what it is.
Read MoreLa Cantera sits high above the Texas Hill Country, and that elevation shapes everything about how a wedding day unfolds there. We've now photographed two very different celebrations on this property, one a full evening celebration with sunset vows and golden hour portraits, the other a smaller gathering built around an outdoor dinner and quiet sunset light. Both days looked nothing alike. Both were unmistakably La Cantera.
Read MoreDowntown San Antonio is one of those places where the setting and atmosphere already brings a sense of the city to life.. The San Antonio River moves through it quietly, lined with cypress trees and the historic stone walkways of the Riverwalk, while the city rises around it in layers, with hotels, open terraces, and bridges lit warm at night. For couples who want their wedding to feel rooted in a place that has its own character, the Riverwalk corridor is one of the most compelling options in Texas.
